COMPETITION ROUTE SETTING
Time & Location
About the Event
This is a 2 day course that involves the full start-to-finish organisation and running of a bouldering competition. This includes a planning stage, setting and testing of a finals round and setting and testing of qualifiers.
This course will be used as the setting for a round of the London University Bouldering Event that is running on Saturday 1st February. Participants are encouraged to come along on the day of the event to experience the day and assess the outcome of the setting.
The course will focus on all parts of setting that are specific to competitions, ranging from setting tips for exciting, crowd-pleasing boulders to the logistics of running a successful competition.
This course is designed as a follow-on to our Commercial Route Setting Course. If you have not completed this course then please ensure you are eligible by reading the requirements below.
Participants must have AT LEAST 1 year of regular route setting experience and be comfortable independently carrying out all parts of the route setting process (working safely on a ladder and with tools, fixing problems such as stuck bolts and broken screws and setting a wide range of grades and styles). Setters are expected to be able to set at least 10 good quality boulders a day from very easy to rather hard (V8ish). If you are in any way unsure if you're experienced enough for the course please send a description of your experience to firstname.lastname@example.org and we can advise.
This course is designed as a follow-on to our Commercial Route Setting Course.
