Testing out the new @unit_holds Final Impact range. Damn these things are fun!

For this one we took some inspiration from the recent World Champs final and created our own version of one of the finals blocs, but at a slightly more approachable grade.

I’ve never been particularly drawn to macro pockets as they can seem slightly one dimensional, but the subtle changes in each hold and through the set in this range make it super versatile and easy to set with.

As we move into another incredibly exciting and busy competition season, we're thinking back to one of our highlights on the 2024 season, the North Face Climb Festival DWS Comp in London.

Events like this are insanely long hours and incredibly stressful, but this one was extra satisfying, with a spectacle that felt like a whole new level for climbing.

Is this the first example of international climbing comps taking inspiration from Hollywood?

Although we know the setting team weren’t really trying to recreate the famous scene from the classic Mission Impossible 2 from the 90’s , it’s inclusion really shows how important creating memorable moments is in modern route setting.

Competition route setting has evolved into much more than simply finding a way to rank competitors. As climbing evolves into an Olympic sport and major companies backing climbing events, the visual spectacle is quickly becoming one of the most important factors to consider when setting competitions. Whether it’s for the world championship finals or a local boulder comp, crafting a competition that creates special moments should now be at the forefront of every route setters mind!

So whether this boulder took inspiration from Hollywood or not, the moments have been created for the exact same reason, to be awe-inspiring moments for a crowd of spectators, those watching live-stream or those at a red-carpet premier.
