About the Event

An in-depth exploration of everything involved in Competition Route Setting. This event takes in the entire prep, planning, setting and running of an event, including setting a Qualifying Tour, Semi-Finals Round and Finals Round for the annual Armed Forces competition.

The first 3 days of the event will focus on the key items of preparation and planning, moving into setting and testing the three rounds of competition. The last 2 days of the course are event days, where participants will be keeping a watchful eye on the qualifying round to allow for last minute tweaks to the Semi Finals and Finals rounds on the final day. Competition route setting is full of surprises, so this can mean some late evenings setting and last minute decision making.

The course will be lead by Ben Norman (Certified National Competition Route Setter), Cailean Harker (Certified National Competition Route Setter and recent setter of the CWIF Finals) and Rob Napier (Certified National Master Setter and multiple time British National Setter) who between them have an enormous amount of comeptition route setting experience, from local events up to big national competitions.

Applications will be open from 19th April until the 19th May, with successful candidates then given the opportunity to reserve their space. If there is still space after this, there will be another round of invitations sent out.

We will be looking to invite an equal number of Male and Female participants onto the course (only 4 spaces for each).

We reccomend a minimum of 18 months regular route setting experience, some personal experience with competition (entering local comps is enough) and a minimum climbing level of V4. More details will be required in the application.

The course is £665 + VAT for 5 days.
