NEW ROLE:  Chief Route Setter (London & South East)

We’re excited to announce an opportunity to become a Chief Route Setter at Impact!

Job Description:  We’re looking for a passionate and knowledgeable route setter that can lead the route setting days across the 4 Arch Climbing sites in London. Our chiefs are responsible for maintaining high route setting and safety standards on sets, listening and adapting to feedback, and developing our in-house teams. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Impact directors to develop your skills as a route setter, mentor and chief and is the perfect next step for any experienced route setter looking to take the next step in their career.

Pay: £38,000 - £45,000 pro-rata

Reporting to: Ben Norman (Director and London/SE Regional Manager)

Schedule: This role is 3 days per week, Monday - Wednesday. 

Place of work: This role will be spread accross the 4 Arch Climbing sites in London; Building One, Surrey Quays, Arch North & Arch Acton. It may also include occasional work at other sites, including for events, workshops & training. 

Overview: As the leading provider of route setting services in the UK, we are looking for a candidate that can chief the route setting team on the day to ensure safe and incredibly high-quality route setting across the 4 sites. The ideal candidate must demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to, and incorporate feedback, while ensuring that the route setting at all skill levels align with Impact's renowned quality. The candidate will also be responsible for the ongoing development of the Assistant Route Setters, helping them to develop their skills and experience as route setters and progress through our pathway.

Responsibilities: 

  • Running route setting days as the Chief Route Setter at The Arch walls, Acton, North, Surrey Quays, Building One.

  • Developing the Impact teams through reviews, training and moderations.

  • Helping to organize, set for and run the events and competitions in your region.

  • Ensuring each wall is running smoothly by implementing Impact’s policies and procedures.

  • Developing and maintaining good relations with the walls teams.

Experience: 

Required

  • A minimum of 2 years professional route setting experience.

  • Experience leading teams.

 

Desired

  • Experience leading route setting teams.

  • Experience in developing new route setters.

  • Experience in management, implementing feedback from staff and customers.

Passion for Route Setting: As the Chief of 4 sites, it’s crucial that your passion for route setting can shine through to inspire the rest of our staff and maintain our core values of high quality route setting

Quick Learner: able to pick up complex new tasks quickly, with a passion for self development.

Reliable: able to commit to the role and ensure that you can complete the critical tasks to ensure the ongoing success of the route setting service. This includes jumping to action when things require urgent attention.

Multi-tasking: able to assess the teams progress on the day and make quick decisions to ensure the day runs smoothly.

Leadership: able to give direction and feedback to other members of the setting teams in a constructive way that promotes a supportive working atmosphere. 

Team Worker: happy to get “stuck in” and help out with whatever is needed. As the leader of the team you are expected to lead by example and not shy away from hard tasks.
